Happy King’s Day! Today we celebrate the king’s birthday throughout the country. This means that there are fun things to do everywhere. Don’t you have plans for today yet? We list some of the best things to do today.
Stroll through the flea market
There are large flea markets throughout the country that you can stroll through. There is probably one in every town. If you really want to make a day trip of it, we recommend visiting a market in one of the big cities. In Amsterdam there are huge free markets in the large parks that you certainly don’t want to miss. But there are also huge free markets in other major cities such as Utrecht. There is most likely much more to do here besides shopping. So let yourself be surprised and assume that you will be happy here for a while.
Go to a festival
If you want to go to a festival on King’s Day, this is something you should have thought about well in advance. The major festivals such as Kingsland are currently sold out. But fortunately there are also a lot of free festivals. For example, you can go to the King’s Festival in Deventer, Kingsize in Arnhem or Royal Dutch in Eindhoven. So there is plenty of music, even if you haven’t managed to get tickets for a festival. So take advantage of it.

Meet the Royal Family
The royal family will be in Emmen for King’s Day in 2024. There will be a lot to do in the city because of this special occasion. The city is completely dedicated to the king and King’s Day. Besides the fact that there is a lot to do, you can also try to meet the king. Of course, you don’t just see Willem Alexander every day.
Take a boat trip
In cities with canals, such as Amsterdam, it is great fun to sail around the canals on King’s Day. Especially with the nice weather we hope to have, this is a super fun activity to do with your friends. Please note that there are adjusted rules for sailing today.
Find one of the smaller music venues
Do you really like King’s Day because of the music, but are you not a fan of big festivals? Then you can also look for smaller music venues today. In Utrecht, for example, there are several cafes where you can enjoy live music on King’s Day.
