Do you also regularly clean your ears with a cotton swab? You would say there is nothing wrong with that, but unfortunately that is not entirely true. You can even cause damage by using a cotton swab. We will explain exactly how this works below.
Clean ears with cotton swabs
We already said it in the intro, but cotton swabs are really a no go. You can really do damage with this. After all, the earwax that you want to remove is there for a reason. It should be in the first part of your ear canal. And even though you think you’re removing it with a cotton swab, you’re actually just pushing most of it further into your ear. Your body will then produce even more earwax because it is no longer in place.
Protection
Although you may think it is very normal to remove earwax, it is actually a very good thing that our body produces this. It ensures that your ear is protected against dust and other dirt. Your ear is self-cleaning and there is no need for you to interfere with this. The only result you will achieve with this is that your body will produce more earwax and you can even damage your ear and its functioning.
Cleaning ears
Cleaning your ears is therefore really unnecessary and no matter how much you want to remove it, it is really better to leave your earwax in place. What you can do is run a washcloth with lukewarm water behind your ear to remove some dirt. Are you really bothered by earwax? Then go to the doctor to have your ear syringed out.
