Hip hurray!
Technically, Zara Tindall doesn’t have a royal title, but that doesn’t mean she’s not part of the royal family. The absence of this title does not make her any less interesting. We tell you about the life of the birthday boy/girl, as a member of the royal family and as a top athlete.
Royal title
Zara, the daughter of Princess Anne and her ex-husband Mark Phillips, was born in London 43 years ago today. She has an older brother, Peter, and two half-sisters. She was not given a royal title at birth, because it is passed down through the male line. Zara’s mother may be the daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth, but her father had no title, and therefore no princely title was passed on to her. Her nieces, Prince Andrew’s daughters, do have a royal title.
Because Queen Elizabeth felt the difference was unfair, she did offer to give Zara a title. However, Princess Anne and her husband refused this offer, believing that life as a royal grandchild would be difficult enough. For that reason, Zara’s father also rejected this offer at the wedding to Anne.
Family
Only recently it blew Luke Philip, the son of Zara and her husband Mike Tindall, has already turned out three candles. He is the youngest of the family. Zara and Mike also have two older daughters, Lena Elizabeth and Mia Grace. It’s been more than a decade since Zara met Mike. Mike said he would never have met Zara if he had been fielded during the Rugby World Cup in Australia. In Australia, the two started to feel butterflies for each other. The team Mike played on went far, but when Mike was told he wasn’t drafted in the semi-finals, he was angry.
“I wasn’t drafted, so I went for a beer with someone else who wasn’t drafted and someone who was in Sydney.” The guys he went out for drinks with had met Zara before, so when Zara showed up, Mike couldn’t resist introducing himself as well. Zara also liked Mike. So she wrote her number on a note and gave it to one of Mike’s teammates. And the rest is history, as we know.
Sporty
Not only Mike is sporty, Zara can also be found in the sports world. She shares a love of horses with her grandmother Elizabeth. Not only is she fun to watch, she’s also good at it, winning numerous medals. In 2012 she won Olympic silver, awarded by none other than her own mother, how nice! She won the prize with the British eventing team during the Olympic Games in London.
The royal was also a participant in the Badminton Horse Trials. After her competition, she was briefly interviewed in the presence of her daughters and son. In the comments on the video of the interview, viewers admire her. “Royalty, stiff competition, toddler in hand, other children in tow. What a great example she is,” was the response.
Hopefully Zara can continue to be a role model for all sporty ladies in the world for many years to come. But today we especially want to give her a nice piece of cake and a good glass of wine. Cheers, Zara, and congratulations!
