This way you can make a scratchy sweater soft and comfy again

This way you don’t have to get rid of your favorite one!

We dream of a white Christmas, but at the same time we want to get through these icy temperatures a little warm. A lovely warm sweater is a must for your wardrobe this season, but what to do if that one sweater has become quite itchy? We are less of a fan of that. Fortunately, there is a solution!

Vinegar

Sometimes it would be better to call vinegar a miracle cure. You can clean all kinds of things with it, but it also helps to make your scratchy sweater soft again. It’s very simple: add a dash of natural vinegar to the wool wash and start washing! The vinegar ensures that the hard and irritating fluff becomes a lot softer.

Conditioner

Conditioner makes your hair soft and supple. And guess what: the hair product achieves the same effect with a wool sweater! You have to approach it a little differently than when you wash your locks, but this short step-by-step plan is easy to implement:

  • Immerse your scratchy sweater in a bucket of cold water
  • Squeeze the sweater so that most of the cold water is out
  • Dab a little extra conditioner onto the sweater
  • Leave it on for half an hour and then gently knead out the hair product.
  • Place the sweater on a drying rack to dry

Freezer

It may seem like a strange place, but the freezer does wonders for the softness of your wool sweater. How exactly do you work? Wet the tickly sweater a little and put it in the freezer overnight. The cold causes the fibers to contract, making the sweater less itchy. The next morning you can take the sweater out of the freezer and let it thaw carefully. With the emphasis on caution, otherwise the fibers may break. End result: a silky soft sweater.

Washing line

Finally, a tip regarding drying your sweater. Preferably do this on the clothesline. Laying it down is even better, otherwise your favorite sweater may lose its shape. In any case, avoid the dryer. Wool is not made for the dryer. In fact, it is the place where three itchy pieces of fluff arise.
