You must have been living under a rock not to be aware of the drama surrounding the Eurovision Song Contest, right? While Joost Klein is currently licking his wounds at home and patiently waiting for the decision of the Swedish Public Prosecution Service, there are other artists who are now making their voices heard about the unsafe atmosphere behind the scenes.
Support from S10
It seems that Joost Klein is currently receiving indirect support from various artists. This is how S10, who performed for the Netherlands at the song festival in 2022 with the song De Diepte, makes itself heard. In a video from RTL Boulevard, S10 shares that she found the atmosphere behind the scenes at the Eurovision Song Contest “really very intense” and that her personal boundaries were not respected there.
‘It was intense for me’
Stien de Hollander, known as S10, emphasizes that she does not want people to think that she did not like it there at all. However, a number of things have happened that S10 found unpleasant. “The Eurovision Song Contest is really very intense. People constantly want something from you. Everyone is pulling at you. That has certainly taken its toll on me. Yes, that was intense for me.”
‘People have crossed my boundaries’
When asked whether she overstepped her boundaries, she first answers negatively: “Because I also wanted to participate and I also wanted to perform,” she responds. She adds: “But many people have crossed my boundaries, especially in the backstage, where it is actually not a pleasant environment for artists.” As an example, she mentions filming artists during vulnerable moments, which S10 would find it “nice” if that changed.
Several artists are speaking out
S10 is not the only artist to speak out about what happens behind the scenes at the Eurovision Song Contest. This year, several artists have also stated that they did not experience the atmosphere behind the scenes at the Eurovision Song Contest as pleasant. For example, the guitarist of the Norwegian entry even said that they hesitated about withdrawing from the final. AVROTROS announced on Tuesday that an unsafe atmosphere had been reported by the broadcaster on behalf of Joost Klein when organizing the event.
Incident Joost Klein
On Monday, the Swedish police reported that Joost Klein’s file had been transferred to the Swedish Public Prosecution Service. They expect that Joost will be prosecuted for the incident with the camerawoman during the Eurovision Song Contest. The case is scheduled for June.
