The word is out: Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant return in the fourth Bridget Jones film. The first recordings are scheduled for May 2024.
Mad about the boy
At the beginning of this year it was announced that Bridget Jones is coming back! The fourth film, which will be called Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, will be based on the 2013 book of the same name. In it, the main character struggles with her life as a single mother in the age of social media and dating apps. What was not yet known was whether leading actors Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant would also appear in the film, or whether there would be a new cast.

It is now known that Renée and Hugh have signed a deal with the makers and will therefore return in the popular film, according to Deadline and Variety, among others. Other big names we’ll see include Emma Thompson, Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

To say that fans have had to wait a long time for a fourth part is an understatement. The very first film in the series appeared on the silver screen in 2001 and the last in 2016. In 2019, Renée Zellweger already spoke about a possible sequel. The actress was then asked in an interview whether a new Bridget Jones film was in the works. “I don’t know,” she said then. “I know Helen wrote the book, so there is,” referring to Helen Fielding, the woman who wrote all the Bridget Jones books. “So I think the opportunity is there, if everyone wants it.”
It is now known not only that filming will start in May, but also when the film will be released. The big day is Valentine’s Day 2025. Will you put it in your calendar?
