She reflects on this difficult time. With the death of her father King George VI (✝56) Queen Elizabeth II became acting head of state of Great Britain and was officially crowned a year later. From then on, she sat on the British throne for 70 years – making her the longest-ruling regent. At the age of 96, the monarch finally died in September last year at her Balmoral Castle – but the Queen did not want to find her final rest there…
As Daily Mail reports, her daughter Princess Anne (73) reveals this in a previously unpublished documentary about the first year of King Charles III. (75) as acting head of state. “I think there was a moment where she felt that it would be more difficult if she died at Balmoral. I think we tried to convince her that that shouldn’t be part of the decision-making process,” she said 73 year old. It is not yet known why the Queen was against the castle.
Nevertheless, she is said to have ultimately been at peace with the decision to stay at Balmoral Castle. Dr. Iain Greenshields, the President of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, visited the Queen at her residence shortly before her death. According to him, the Queen “found great peace and joy in being at Balmoral.”
