Useful clean-up tips
If you scroll through TikTok for a few hours, before you know it you will end up on #cleantok. Maybe not even for finding out useful tips, but it sure looks nice. Let’s be honest, it’s super satisfying to see other people cleaning their homes with the latest gadgets, sponges and cleaning products. All in all, there are a lot of useful cleaning and tidying tips on the social media platform. But, let’s not forget the real clean-up queen Marie Kondō! She recommends a clean-up method that is all about ‘komono’, something that is always central to Kondō.
Marie Kondō komono
We have probably heard of Marie Kondō in recent years. She has become known for her tidying up advice in books and Netflix series. Her decluttering philosophy is all about tidying up, throwing away and organizing. Another thing Kondō recommends to her fans is checking your home for ‘komono’ daily. If you find komono, pick it up and throw it away.
Komono is a Japanese collective name for knick-knacks and frills that are found everywhere in the house. Unimportant receipts in a drawer, mail on the counter or old, already read newspapers on your coffee table, hair elastics or pins. Small things that you certainly don’t need and should throw away as quickly as possible.
Chaotic
According to the tidying guru, tidying up these little things is very important so as not to have major chaos in your home. It’s easy to put your handbag in the same place in the corner of the kitchen every time, but it doesn’t look very neat. This can also give visitors a chaotic impression and of course we don’t want that either.
When checking for komono, it is important to ask yourself: should I keep this or not? If the answer is no, then it goes straight into the trash. If it is a bag or a charger lying around, you obviously don’t have to throw it away. Put these items away immediately. This way you won’t have to worry about it anymore.
