After a long wait, fans of The Crown can finally get ready for a new season this week. The season will be released in two parts, with the first release on Thursday, November 16. We will of course see actress Elizabeth Debicki as Diana. Costume designer Sidonie Roberts has probably lifted the veil on Elizabeth’s iconic outfits as the late princess.
Iconic outfits
Costume designer and head buyer for The Crown, Sidonie Roberts, told the Telegraph about dressing actress Elizabeth Debicki and the outrageous outfits, which capture Princess Diana’s iconic style in the series. During the filming of the series, the actress was spotted in a perfect replica of Diana’s animal print halter swimsuit, which the princess wore during a luxury cruise with Dodi Al Fayed on the Mediterranean in 1997. The princess’s swimsuit look is the center at that moment. We will also see the princess’s turquoise swimsuit, which she wore while standing at the end of the passerelle on Al Fayed’s yacht, in the highly anticipated series.
But not only the daring yet stylish swimsuits are featured, a royal look is also created with a fresh light pink shirt and large gold earrings – as we know the princess to be. In addition, Debicki shines in the well-known red Catherine dress, with which she manages to imitate the iconic style of the princess. The outfit that Diana wore during a visit to Angola, where the Princess of Wales walked across a landmine field, has also been reproduced almost exactly. The series’ costume team managed to recreate the outfit.
Sensitive and tragic
Princess Diana’s outfits have become a very controversial part of the series. The intention was to keep the clothes extremely close to what Diana actually wore. According to Roberts, the subject is very sensitive and tragic and they do not want to detract from that. “That was a very important decision for us,” she said.
The Crown
After a long wait, the time has finally come: the first part of the final season of The Crown will be released on Netflix tomorrow. As mentioned, the new season will be split into two parts. In the four episodes of the first part, the blossoming relationship between Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) is examined, the tragic outcome of which we all know. The roles of William and Harry are also played by Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards in the first part.
In the six episodes of the second part we see how the royals struggle with their mourning for the late Princess Diana, and the princes are played by Ed McVey (William) and Luther Ford (Harry). In addition, the budding romance of Prince William and fellow student Catherine Middleton, played by Meg Bellamy, will play a central role.
