‘Don’t call me if something isn’t right!’
The long-awaited series Patty, inspired by the life of Patty Brard, will finally premiere tonight! The series includes Patty’s Luv period. In conversation with Glamial, Patty tells more about the Luv’ portrayal in the series and why she insisted on having a disclaimer in the series.
Luv’ at premiere?
In the five-part drama series Patty Holly Mae Brood and Eva van de Wijdeven take on the role of Patty Brard. Since the series is inspired by the presenter’s life, her Luv’ period is also discussed. Patty says that she has invited her former Luv colleagues to the premiere of the series. “Certainly,” Patty answers. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we can expect Marga Scheide and José Hoebee at the premiere. “Marga celebrates her seventieth birthday on Sunday,” explains Patty. “She asked where the premiere was and wished me good luck. Very nice. I haven’t heard anything from José, she is still in the angry phase,” Patty says matter-of-factly.
In the seventies and eighties, Luv’ was completely national and international hot. The group scored hits with the songs You’re The Greatest Lover and Trojan Horse, but the collaboration between the ladies did not always go smoothly. Something that is also covered in the series.
She finds it quite exciting that Patty’s former Luv colleagues will soon also be able to see the series. “Yes, that’s true. But they must understand that the series is mainly about the Patty phenomenon and that Luv’ is part of a certain time period. It’s not a series about Luv,’” Patty shares. “It’s about my life and Luv’ was one of my highlights.”
Disclaimer
Although Patty agreed to a series about her life, she wants to emphasize that she is not the one who created the series. Each episode therefore begins with the disclaimer that the series is inspired by her life. “I wanted that in myself,” shares the presenter. “To tighten things up a bit, Will (Will Koopman, director of Pattyed.) took my life as a common thread for the series, but certain events have been enlarged or sharpened to make them suitable for the series,” she explains.
“For example, Marga was the sexy element of Luv’, but in the series she takes that very literally and shows herself partly naked. In reality she didn’t do that, but a sauce was poured over the characters. By the way, I didn’t pour that sauce, so don’t call me. Just call Will Koopman or Videoland if something is wrong, but not me,” Patty laughs.
Different in real life
Patty herself also has to be reminded every now and then that the series is not entirely based on her life. “After watching two episodes I thought it was good again and I had to recover for a while. I must honestly say that I also try to let go of the episodes a bit, because not everything is right,” says Patty.
Patty has now watched the entire series and she remembers a scene that plays out differently in the series than how it happened in real life. “In the series you can see a scene with Rene Muthert (Patty’s ex-husband who cheated her out of a lot of money, ed.) in which ‘I’ very angrily walk behind him and say that he has to pay me back all my money. In real life it didn’t go that way at all,” Patty shares. “At the time, during that situation, I thought: for God’s sake, go out, leave me alone and get out of my life. After that I just cried really hard. It was only when I found out that he was entitled to alimony – and I had to pay fifty percent of my income to him – that I became angry,” Patty shares. “For the series, Will put those events together.”
Tonight Patty will have a festive premiere at the Huishoudbeurs in Amsterdam. The first episodes of Patty can be seen from Sunday at 5 p.m. on Videoland and at 10.20 p.m. on RTL 4.
