Kate opens new surgical department at children’s hospital in London

This development allows the organization to treat up to 2,300 additional children annually.

Kate Middleton is one of the most popular British royals. It is not without reason that the Princess of Wales is so popular, because she often dedicates herself to good causes. This is also the case today, because this morning Kate visited the Evelina children’s hospital in London to open a new surgical department there.

Patroness

The Princess of Wales is also patron of the Evelina children’s hospital in London. She was at the hospital on Tuesday for the official opening of a new surgical department called ‘Children’s Day Surgery Unit’. This department, as the name suggests, is designed so that patients and their families do not have to spend the night in the hospital. In this way, Evelina’s does everything it can to make a hospital visit as comfortable as possible for sick children.

The Princess will have the opportunity to hear directly from families and employees about the impact the department is already having. Upon arrival, the Duchess of Cambridge was given a festive welcome and spoke to the two first patients in the department.

Naturally, the well-known ribbon was also cut…

…And the children showed the princess that there is also room for relaxation and creativity in the hospital.

2,300 additional children

The department is housed in the state-of-the-art Children’s Day Treatment Center, which also includes two brand new operating rooms. Sick children are offered as much care as possible on the same day, so that they do not have to experience the necessary stress that comes with a hospital stay. Treatments, which consist of several parts such as a pre-operative check-up, surgery and recovery, all take place in one purposefully designed space. The new facility will transform care for children and young people needing surgery, by providing everything they need in one place. With this family-oriented experience, the organization can serve up to 2,300 additional children annually. Wow!

Outfit

For this special outing, the mother of three wore a beautiful dark blue, custom-made suit by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, consisting of trousers and a double-breasted blazer. To wear under the blazer, she wore a simple yet stylish fitted sweater from the closet and completed her look with a pair of stylish, navy blue pumps. As for Kate’s haircut and make-up, the princess wore her beautiful auburn locks down and lightly applied her make-up, using warm tones.

Previous visit

Princess Kate also visited the Evelina children’s hospital earlier this year, where she met 27-year-old Mischa Ward and her newborn daughter Amaya-Rae. Little Amaya-Rae was born at 23 weeks – much too early of course. Kate, who is a mother of three children herself, sympathized enormously with the family and did her utmost to support the little girl and mother Mischa. About the meeting, Mischa said at the time: “She had such a calming, beautiful presence, she made me feel so relaxed straight away. It was like I was talking to a friend. She was a ray of sunshine in a truly terrifying time.”
