Although nature and animal expert Floris Göbel never won a test in Expedition Robinson, he says he “enjoyed it immensely”. The adventure was certainly tough, he says in RTL’s Back2Base. “What you often don’t see are the evenings and nights,” he says. “You really lie awake at night in the rain.” According to him, on Robinson’s tropical island it can rain non-stop for twelve hours. Wow! But of course we only see candidates on TV who are sweating in the heat during a test. Every season there are a few candidates for whom everything turns out to be just a little too difficult. This season we saw Jaimie Vaes and Radmilo Soda give up. Something Floris would probably never think about.
To report? “Tasteless snack”
In the Back2Base episode, Floris indicates that he does not understand why people give up. “I didn’t understand that at all about giving up,” begins presenter Geraldine Kemper, with Floris immediately joining in. “What on earth would make you give up?” he wonders. “I find that really bizarre and I still say that to everyone: I think that is such a lame thing.” Although, according to Geraldine, it shows how the adventure of Expedition Robinson is underestimated.
Floris lasted a long time in the expedition. Of course he also missed his family and friends. He also sees them every week. It was not without reason that the video message brought him to tears, as we saw in the episode. Yet Floris would have liked to see the Robinson adventure through to the end.
Bizarre island council
Floris is also kicked out of the game in a bizarre way. During the last island council, fellow candidate Willem Voogd pulls off a brilliant masterstroke, forcing Floris to leave the game completely unexpectedly. Aww! Or well, it wasn’t actually very unexpected for Floris. “Mark didn’t see this coming at all,” he says. “But I certainly saw the opportunity that Willem was going to do something with the coin.” Although he is surprised by Ilse: “I never thought that Ilse, as an Olympic rower, would row with someone else’s oars.” But that indeed happened. Ilse actually received a huge number of votes, but these all expired thanks to Willem’s immunity coin. As a result, the few votes for Floris suddenly became fatal to him. Too bad, but also “played super smart”, according to Floris.
“Extraterrestrial awesome” adventure
During the vote on the island council, Floris appears calm, but that is actually all appearances. “I could sink to the ground,” he says about his real emotions during the island council. He really wanted to get through to the semi-finals. “I also wanted to say: Art, Nicolette, I saw everyone coming back from some crazy island. Do you have another island for me?” he says. “Just throw me on it! No food, nothing. Please, I want to keep going.” Unfortunately, it really was the end of his Expedition Robinson adventure.
