It has a very annoying reason.
Of course, we know Queen Letizia as someone who does not always follow the royal rules when it comes to fashion. Her short dress caused quite a commotion on holiday, and her ‘cheese with holes’ skirt also caused surprise. But have you ever noticed that she also pushes the boundaries of royal fashion with her footwear? Leti increasingly prefers a pair of flat shoes to high heels. The reason? Unfortunately, that one is less fun.
Flat shoes
Earlier this week, Letizia visited the Spanish organization APRAMP. We already wrote yesterday about the special meaning of her jacket, but her choice of shoes was also striking: the queen opted for ‘normal’ low mules! Very comfortable of course.

And this was certainly not the first time that Leti left her high heels in the closet: during a working visit at the end of last year, the Spanish queen also opted for a fashionable look with, yes, flat loafers! A daring choice, these chunky Martinelli’s, but Letizia absolutely rocks them.

The reason
Unfortunately, this unusual choice of shoes has a very annoying reason. According to the Spanish daily El Mundo, the queen has chronic metatarsalgia in both feet and a Morton neuroma in her right foot. Does this mean nothing to you? Don’t worry, we had to do some Googling too. But the bottom line is that she suffers from a sharp pain in the balls of her feet, combined with a pinched nerve. Aw…
These complaints are most likely the result of, you guessed it, walking too much in high heels. After a thorough medical examination, a specialist reportedly advised Reina to leave her stilettos in the closet more often. And according to the newspaper, that is the reason why Leti increasingly wears flat shoes. More than sensible of course!
