The palace doors open again to the general public.
Living in a palace is only for a few. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t secretly dream about it! Strolling through ballrooms, wandering around royal gardens… And those dreams are now a little closer: from March 26, the Palace of Monaco will open its doors again! Time for a little city trip?
Palace visit
The Grimaldis have lived on the same rock on the Mediterranean Sea for more than eight hundred years. As early as the year 1215, the foundation for the current princely palace, where Prince Albert, Princess Charlene and the twins now reside, was laid.
The Monegasque Palace is therefore in principle a private residence, but part of it (the ‘State Apartments”> is accessible to visitors. Unfortunately this is not open all year round. The doors have remained closed in recent months, but from the end of March we can wander around the royal residence again!

What can you expect?
There is plenty to see and do inside the palace, but the highlight is actually outside in front of the palace. The changing of the guard takes place there every day at 11:55 am sharp. Expect a lot of uniforms, unintelligible orders and live trumpet blasts. It is certainly impressive!

The open part of the palace is absolutely not disappointing. From the gallery you have a view over the famous courtyard, with the stairs on which we often see the royals standing during the National Day. Inside you will find shiny marble floors, chandeliers, portraits, coats of arms, and above all: gold, gold and more gold! The entire tour of the palace is provided with extensive commentary via an audio guide, making you feel like a real Grimaldi expert in less than an hour.

One of the highlights is the throne room, where the weddings of Grace Kelly to Prince Rainier and that of Princess Charlene to Prince Albert took place. Unfortunately, it is not possible to take a seat in the throne, but it can also be admired from a distance!

Are you already dreaming away? Well, just wait until you see this royal bedroom! The room, the ‘York Room’, is named after the British Duke of York. And no, we are not talking about scandalous Prince Andrew, but about one of his predecessors, who once became unwell during a trip across the Mediterranean and was cared for in this bedroom.
