In a candid conversation with Shownieuws, Erica Meiland finally answered the question that many people have: is she attracted to women? The reality star, known from programs such as Ik Vertrek and Chateau Meiland, responded to the striking statements of TV director Timon Mol in front of the camera of Shownieuws.
Is Erica Meiland also attracted to women?
Timon Moll, the director of the popular TV programs about the Meiland family, shares his story in the new book The Family – Behind the Scenes at the Meilandjes. Timon had a striking suspicion about Erica’s orientation. In the family’s new book he reveals: “I think it’s so cool that you’re a lesbian and Martien is gay”. Erica responded immediately: “That’s not true at all”.
Prejudiced
At the launch of the fourth Meiland book, Shownieuws spoke to Erica about these statements. “Timon thought for a long time that I was into women, I didn’t know that at all,” she says. In the video, Erica clearly denies that she is into women: “I think it’s a bit prejudiced, because I’m busy with a chainsaw, but does that make you a lesbian? No…”
‘I might be different too’
Although Erica is not worried about Timon’s mistake. She explains matter-of-factly: “I may be a little different from other women.” She understands that people sometimes draw wrong conclusions based on superficial observations. You do you, Erica!
Montana’s Opinion
Daughter Montana is not surprised that Timon had this suspicion. “My mother is not very feminine or elegant either,” she admits. Yet she knows better than anyone that appearance and behavior do not say everything about someone’s orientation.
Heart complaints
Earlier, Timon revealed that Martien suddenly felt very ill during the recordings of Chateau Meiland. He was so sad that he appeared on camera crying, dressed in a bathrobe. “He had heart problems and had difficulty breathing,” Timon told RTL Boulevard. “We filmed everything because we didn’t know what was going on.” But it soon became clear that Martien’s complaints had a different cause. He had online contact with a man who kept asking for money. Martien, always so sweet and kind-hearted, kept giving money without realizing that he was getting into trouble. The stress made him ill. “Martien was completely upset and could only cry,” Timon said.
‘Erica Meiland is the sweetest woman you can have’
In the end, Timon decided to inform Erica together with Martien. And that turned out to be the best decision ever! “At such moments, Erica is at her best,” says Timon. “She was so sweet to him! She supported him completely and was very involved. That is a side of Erica that you might not immediately expect, because she comes across as so strong. But when her great love is in trouble, she is the sweetest woman you can have.”
