Crash landing on you (2019)
The show that every K-drama fan should have seen. The modern Romeo and Juliet, but with a happy ending. Yoon Se-ri is a successful entrepreneur with her own company ‘Seri’s choice’. During an afternoon of paragliding, the weather suddenly changes and she ends up over the border with North Korea. That’s where Ri Jeong-hyeok finds her during his daily rounds along the border. He helps her hide and ensures that Se-ri finds her way back to the south. During this adventure, more feelings arise than just fear.
My name (2021)
Say goodbye to sappy series. ‘My name’ is a series full of plot twists. The main character, Yoon Ji-woo, undergoes many changes in her life. Her father suddenly dies, leaving Ji-woo to find out why he died and by whom. She joins a drug gang that had connections to her father. She changes her last name to be less noticeable. With the help of the leader, Choi Mu-jin, she tries to find out. She goes undercover with the police and changes her name again, to Oh Hye-jin. It may sound chaotic, but once you start you are completely immersed in the series. With eight episodes, it is the shortest show in the list.
Love to hate you (2023)
Of course, there is also a series that is suitable for romcom enthusiasts. As the title says, the classic genre ‘enemies to lovers’ is there. Yeo Mi-ran is a lawyer and starts working at a company that specializes in defending celebrities. Mi-ran has very little contact with the opposite sex, except that she has sex with them. Nam Kang-ho is the top actor in South Korea. He has thousands of fans and women go wild for him. So wild that Kang-ho is done with all those women. Mi-ran hears him make misogynistic statements and immediately puts him on her ‘bad guy’ list. By being very friendly with him, she hopes to discover more secrets and expose him. Tomorrow (2022)
‘Tomorrow’ may be niche, but it is no less good than the rest on this list. Choi Jun-woong has no success finding a job. After an accident, he ends up in a coma and meets the Grim Reaper, who in this story is a company instead of one person, Koo Ryeon and Lim Ryeong-gu. He works with them to make sure people don’t commit suicide. Each episode has a different story. However, there is a common thread in every story. This is how it goes from an old man to a young woman with an office job. You are drawn into the series and every episode gives you new emotions.
Move to heaven (2021)
Just like ‘Tomorrow’, ‘Move to heaven’ has a new story every episode with connections to a bigger story. When Han Geu-ru’s father dies, his uncle, Cho Sang-gu, is given guardianship of Geu-ru. Geu-ru is 20, but has autism. This makes it important that he has a guardian who will guide him well. Han Jeong-woo, Geu-ru’s father, is Sang-gu’s half-brother. They had not been in touch for some time due to Sang-gu’s past. Geu-ru and his father owned a cleaning company together, but not just any cleaning company. They did trauma cleaning; cleaning homes where someone has died. Sang-gu now takes over this company, but that comes with many complications. The series tells the story of autism well. The actor portrays the emotions and aspects beautifully and takes you into his feelings.
