A good sign for the recovering king!
Great news: King Charles and Queen Camilla will soon receive a visit from Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako! This is the first state visit planned since the king’s diagnosis.
State visit
Last week, Buckingham Palace delivered the happy news that King Charles will resume his royal duties. And now the first state visit has been officially announced! A message on the website of the British royal family states that the Japanese emperor will visit Buckingham Palace with his wife at the end of June.
Postponed visit
The imperial couple were originally scheduled to make a state visit to the United Kingdom in 2020, but that had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic. Naruhito and Masako were present at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022. This was their first foreign visit since the accession to the throne in 2019.
What exactly will the state visit in June look like? Little is known about this yet. However, the Japan Times reports that the necessary preparations are already being made for various welcome events at Buckingham Palace. Of course we also expect a grand, royal state banquet!
Duties of the king
In addition to the state visit, more activities for King Charles are already on the agenda in the near future. His first official visit will take place next Tuesday. On this day, he will visit a cancer treatment center with Queen Camilla, where they will meet medical specialists and patients. “The medical team is very encouraged by the progress made to date and remains positive about the King’s continued recovery,” a spokesperson for the Royal House said.
However, the fact that the king resumes his royal duties does not mean that he has been cured of cancer. The medical treatment has therefore not yet been fully completed. Still, we think it’s a good sign that Charles is showing up at more and more events!
