Shop it like Diana!
Even now, more than a quarter of a century later, Princess Diana is still a fashion icon and style example. Unfortunately, many of her iconic outfits are no longer available, or have simply become unaffordable due to the princess’s immense popularity. But guess what? One of Di’s favorite sweaters is still for sale – even for those without a royal budget.
Casual looks
Although we often saw Lady Di dazzling in a beautiful ball gown and with glittering diamonds around her neck and fingers, we have to admit that the royal also looked great in a casual outfit. She may not have been a queen, but Diana was definitely the queen of casual wear. One of her go-to outfits was an oversized sweatshirt with bike shorts and sneakers underneath. The princess always completed her look with sunglasses or a cap.
Virgin Atlantic sweater
In 1990, Lady Di turned heads when she was spotted in a Virgin Atlantic sweatshirt on her way to the gym. The sweater itself wasn’t even that special, but the fact that she wore it several times in a row was especially special. Of course, she probably liked the sweater, but that wasn’t the only reason why she pulled it out of the closet so often. In this way, the royal hoped that the value of the paparazzi photos would decrease. After all, if the photos of the princess looked roughly the same every day, they would sell less well.
Of course, the paparazzi and the world were still captivated by Lady Di, whether she was wearing the Virgin Atlantic jersey for the umpteenth time or not, but it was certainly a clever plan. Ironically, her plan resulted in another iconic look.
Still for sale
The sweater is still popular in 2024 and is even still sold! In fact, Virgin Atlantic has even released a new collection that includes the sweater. The Princess of Wales’ original sweater was auctioned in 2019 for around $53,532, but luckily you’ll pay a little less for Virgin Atlantic’s new collection. The sweater costs 70 pounds, which is about 82 euros. The sweater is unisex and is available in sizes small to extra large.
