Indispensable in your handbag: you should not forget these items

(Last Updated On: January 23, 2024)

You are always on the go and your handbag is your faithful companion. But how do you ensure that you have everything you need with you? There are a number of items that are indispensable in your handbag. Whether you’re going to work, doing some shopping or going out for a night out, these items ensure that you are always prepared for any situation.

One of the most important items in your handbag is of course your wallet. You can store not only your money and cards here, but also receipts and other important papers. Make sure your wallet is big enough to hold everything you need, but not so big that it becomes cumbersome to carry around. Prefer a more minimalist wallet? Then I advise you to use a card holder (women’s card holder and men’s card holder).

Wallet and co

One of the most important items in your handbag is of course your wallet. You can store not only your money and cards here, but also receipts and other important papers. Make sure your wallet is big enough to hold everything you need, but not so big that it becomes cumbersome to carry around.

Prefer a more minimalist wallet? Then I advise you to use a card holder (there are card holders for women and card holders for men).

Cash

Having cash is always handy, especially if you’re going to a place where you can’t pay with your debit card (think: some toilets at stations). Make sure you always have some change with you for small expenses, such as a cup of coffee.

Card holder

A card holder is a handy item to keep your cards organized. It prevents you from losing cards and protects them from damage. Choose a card holder with enough space for all your cards.

Debit and credit cards

Bank cards and credit cards are indispensable in your wallet. Make sure you always have the correct cards with you, so you can pay anywhere. Check regularly whether your cards are still valid and replace them if necessary.

Identity card and driver’s license

A valid ID and driver’s license are important to have with you, because you often need them to identify yourself. Make sure you always have a valid ID and driver’s license with you so that you can travel and drive without any problems.

Make sure you always have these payment methods with you in your wallet, so that you are always ready to pay.

Personal care

In your handbag it is important to have a number of items that support your personal care. Below you will find some essential items.

Hand disinfectant

It is important to always have hand sanitizer with you. This ensures that you can clean and disinfect your hands at any time. Especially in public places such as on public transport or in the supermarket, it is important to keep your hands clean and protected against bacteria and viruses.

Lip balm

Your lips often have a hard time, especially in winter. It is therefore important to always have lip balm with you. Lip balm protects your lips from drying out and keeps them soft and supple. Preferably choose a lip balm with an SPF factor to protect your lips from the sun.

Hair accessories

Hair accessories are indispensable in your handbag. Whether you have an elastic band, a hair clip or a comb with you, it is always useful to quickly style your hair. Especially on windy days or if you have a long day ahead of you, it’s nice to be able to keep your hair out of your face.

Health

Painkillers

Pain can strike at any time, and it’s always helpful to have some painkillers on hand. Whether it’s a headache, period pain or muscle pain, a few painkillers can help you get through the day. Make sure you always have a small supply of paracetamol in your handbag, but use them in moderation and follow the instructions on the packaging.

Band aids

A small cut or scrape can happen at any time, and it’s important to treat them quickly to prevent infections. Make sure you always have a few Band-Aids in your handbag so you can apply them straight away if something happens. Choose water-resistant plasters if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors.

Especially during the summer months, I recommend that you pack quite a few plasters in your bag, given all the nice summer shoes (which can often cause foot misery).

Spare lenses or glasses

If you wear contact lenses or glasses, it’s a good idea to have a spare pair with you. If you wear contact lenses, make sure you also have a bottle of lens solution and a lens case with you. If you wear glasses, make sure you have a glasses case to store them safely. The last thing you want is to be left without vision if something happens to your contact lenses or glasses.

Technology and much-needed accessories

Smartphone

Nowadays your smartphone is an indispensable item in your handbag. It is not only a means of communication, but also a camera, music player and personal assistant. Make sure you always have your smartphone with you so that you can be reached and keep track of important appointments.

Charging cable

A charging cable is essential to ensure that your smartphone is always charged. It’s annoying when you’re on the road and your battery is almost empty. Therefore, make sure that you always have a charging cable with you, so that you can charge your smartphone when necessary.

If your train is delayed or canceled, it is extremely annoying to have to save your phone.

Power bank

A power bank is a handy accessory to ensure that your smartphone is always charged, even when there is no socket nearby. It is a portable charger that you can easily carry in your handbag. With a power bank you don’t have to worry about your smartphone running out of power during a long day outside.

Make sure you always have this technology and accessories with you in your handbag, so that you are always reachable and your smartphone is always charged.

Keys and access passes

If you are often on the road, keys and access passes are indispensable in your handbag. After all, you always want to have access to your home, office or car. It is therefore important to ensure that you always have these items with you.

A handy way to keep your keys and access cards organized is to attach them to a key ring. This means you don’t have to search for the right key and you always have it at hand. You can also use a key holder in your bag to prevent your keys from lying around in your bag.

If you have multiple access passes, such as an OV chip card or an access pass for work, it is useful to keep them together in a pass holder. This way you have all the cards in one place and you don’t have to search in your bag.

It is also important to ensure that your keys and access cards are stored safely. A bag with a zipper or a lockable compartment is therefore a good choice. This way you prevent your keys or cards from falling out of your bag or being stolen.

Notepad and pens

A notepad and pen are indispensable in your handbag. Whether you’re at work, on your way to an appointment, or just running errands, having a notepad and pen can help you remember and organize important information.

With a notepad and pen you can quickly make notes about important phone numbers, appointments, to-do lists and other important information. It’s a useful way to organize your thoughts and keep yourself organized.

A notepad and pen are also useful for taking notes during meetings or presentations. You can write down important points and look back later to make sure you haven’t missed anything important.

Snacks and some water

When you are on the road, it is important to be well prepared. Having snacks and water in your handbag is an absolute must. This prevents you from getting hungry and thirsty and you can always offer something to eat and drink to others.

Some small snacks you can keep in your handbag include nuts, dried fruit or an energy bar. These snacks are healthy and give you quick energy when you need it. In addition, they are easy to carry and have a long shelf life.

In addition to snacks, it is also important to always have a bottle of water with you. Make sure you have a reusable bottle that you can refill again and again. This not only reduces your waste, but also ensures that you always have enough water with you. Drinking enough water is important for your health and ensures that you stay hydrated throughout the day.

Tissues and hygiene products

Your handbag should not be missing tissues and hygiene products such as moon change or tampons. Choose good quality tissues so that they do not tear or fall apart easily.

In addition to tissues, hygiene products are also important to have with you. This includes hand gel, disinfectant wipes and tampons or sanitary towels. Hand gel is ideal for cleaning your hands when there is no soap and water nearby. Disinfectant wipes are useful for cleaning surfaces, such as a table or chair in a public space.
