Laura Wontorra (34) loves handball! On Wednesday evening, the German national handball team played the opening game of the European Championship in their own country. The team of national coach Alfred Gislason won against the Swiss team with a clear 27:14. A match that the presenter also watched with enthusiasm. And as a big handball fan Laura Extremely proud to be an ambassador for the European Championships for Cologne this year.
Because handball plays for Laura a special role. Thanks to her father and brother, she has been familiar with the sport since she was a child. “It’s a really nice Wontorra project where we have a lot of fun, but also get together to talk about the jobs,” she enthuses in an interview with express.de. The 34-year-old is particularly proud that the main round of the European Championships will be held in her favorite city, Cologne. She is also an ambassador there: “I’m actually from Bremen, but I feel like a real Cologne girl […]. That’s why I’m proud and grateful to be an ambassador for this location.” She keeps her fingers crossed for the team to stay in the tournament until then.
In Düsseldorf, the opening game started not only with a victory for the DHB team, but also with a world record. 53,586 fans filled the Merkur Game Arena – no indoor game in the world has ever had so many spectators. “It was the sickest thing I’ve ever experienced. […] I’ll never forget that,” enthused the national player Rune Dahmke (30) to Eurosport.
