Completely hip: this is the jacket trend among the royals

Our own Máxima and daughters also participate!

Of course, in royal circles you always have to look your best. A winter coat is not always the most ideal piece of clothing, but the royal ladies always manage to appear on the scene in the most elegant coats. This winter, many of them are opting for a specific trend: a long coat with a tie belt. Timeless, chic, and above all nice and warm!

Beige or camel color

Twinning is winning, Mary of Denmark and Letizia of Spain must have thought! During a state visit in November 2023, the two visited Mary Elizabeth’s Hospital together, where they both opted for a cloak with a belt.

Mary is wearing a coat from Joseph Kido, made of wool and cashmere. Leti’s model comes from Carolina Herrera.

Letizia must have felt inspired by the beige shade of Mary’s coat, because in January 2024 she wore an oatmeal-colored one from the brand & Other Stories. Classy!

But our own Queen Máxima is also a fan of these jackets. For example, last week she wore a camel-colored coat from the Max Mara brand. She has had this hanging in her closet for years and has worn it regularly, the experts at UFO No More tell us.

But the queen also likes to wear this beige-colored fitted coat by Massimo Dutti. For example, she recently took it out of the closet for a working visit in the context of circular construction.

We are also a huge fan of this oversized coat, worn by Victoria of Sweden! The wool coat with a large waistband is from the Swedish brand Toteme.

Winter shades

The three A’s prove that this trend goes further than just neutral colors! In the autumn 2023 photos, Amalia, Alexia and Ariane all appeared in a beautiful winter coat with a waistband.

As we often see, there was a lot of borrowing between the princesses and their mother. For example, Fashion Queen Máxima reported that Princess Alexia’s blue coat had previously been worn by both Máxima and Amalia, and that Princess Ariane’s green Max Mara coat also came from her mother’s wardrobe.

Zara Tindall also opted for a winter color with this new coat from the Tor brand. She wore the coat, paired with a wool fedora from LK Bennett, during the Cheltenham December Races in December 2023.

And even Camilla is joining the trend: when she visited the Emmaus Bristol charity, she donned this elegant dark purple coat.
