Welcome home!
It’s a crazy mess with the Oranjes, we know that. They love their four-legged friends and proved again during this year’s photo session that they love romping with their pets. But there was apparently still plenty of room at Huis ten Bosch Palace, because a very proud Queen Máxima shares snapshots of her new pets via Instagram.
Animals
First there were the two Labradors: Nala and Skipper. Then a third Labrador was added from a litter of Nala, named Luna. Two years ago we were introduced to toy poodle Mambo, and with that the animal kingdom seemed complete again.
But nothing turned out to be further from the truth! Today the Oranjes introduced us to a new set of residents of Huis ten Bosch Palace. Or well… a basket in the palace is not really necessary for these new pets. Our queen has adopted three hedgehogs!

Safe at home
The photo shows that the hedgehog is having an increasingly difficult time in the Netherlands. The worms and insects on which they live are becoming increasingly difficult to find due to the warmer summers, and their habitat is becoming smaller due to increasing buildings and traffic.
Fortunately, there are now three chosen hedgehogs who can spend the rest of their lives in a particularly pleasant way in the garden of Huis ten Bosch Palace. The photos of Máx with her cuddly creatures include the following: “Queen Máxima has adopted three hedgehogs and released them in the garden of Huis ten Bosch Palace. The garden and the forest area offer plenty of food and space for the hedgehogs due to the many different plants and shrubs.” What a luxury for the spiky four-legged friends!
Empty nest
It is of course a very good example that as a queen you can help animals in need. But we also secretly suspect that Máxima is taking her empty nester syndrome to a new level.
In any case, we are very curious to know what Your Highness called the hedgehogs – perhaps three names starting with an A? Who knows!
