Asma El Mouden: ‘Fantastic that I get the chance to play different characters’

About her dream role, what she would be if she had not become an actress and what her future looks like.

She can be seen in the Telefilms Triq Salama and De Vaandeldrager Vijf and she returns in the second season of Zina. Marie Claire spoke to Asma El Mouden about her dream role, what she would be if she had not become an actress and what her future looks like.

Different characters

The talented actress can be seen in the telefilms Triq Salama and De Vaandeldrager Vijf. Two completely different roles. In the first she plays an observational role and in the second she plays the assistant of a state secretary. “It’s fantastic that I get the opportunity to play such different characters,” she says. “I choose my roles based on my feelings, the challenge of the role, and of course I see if I like the script.”

MENA world

Roles she would have liked to play? “The role of Queen Charlotte in the Bridgerton spin-off – such a costume drama seems wonderful. But I would also have loved the role of Hermione in Harry Potter.” Those specific roles have already been cast, but she dreams big. “I would like to star in a film or series in the MENA world, so the Middle East/South Africa,” she fantasizes. “Preferably a role in Arabic and if I can dream further, I would like to work with great actors and actresses from that world.”

Female teacher

Asma has no formal theater training. “I started at the theater group DEGASTEN and learned all facets of the profession in practice,” she explains. If that hadn’t worked, she would have become a teacher. “I originally come from education and have taught Dutch for a long time,” she explains. “I would also have liked to become a psychologist. I hope to study psychology again one day.”
