The one thing Princess Kate can’t do

Kate can do everything, except…

Kate Middleton not only always looks the part, she is also a woman of many talents. Playing the piano, taking photographs, making honey and at the same time being an exemplary mother: the Princess of Wales can do it all. Yet there is one thing that is not for Kate.

Jack-of-all-trades

Princess Kate is at home in all markets. She is a talented photographer. Makes its own honey. Plays a tune effortlessly at the piano. Bakes pastry-worthy cakes in the palace kitchen. Delivers impressive sports performances, whether in tennis, rugby or mountain biking. Is an expert in early childhood development through her own charity. And all this in addition to a more than full-time job as a working royal and mother of three. You get our point: Kate can do anything. Well, sometimes she admits that something goes over her head. Also reassures us.

‘I’m really bad at that’

For example, the Princess of Wales indicated several times that she prefers to leave knitting projects aside. “I tried to knit something when George was born. I tried to knit a special sweater for him, but I got halfway through, and then it completely fell apart,” Kate once said during a working visit, where a group of grandparents showed off their needlework skills. “It really is a great skill,” said the princess. Just not for her. During another visit to Glasglow, Kate said it again: “I’ve been trying to master knitting and I’m really bad at it. I should ask for tips!”

No talent for languages

Nowadays, Kate no longer ventures into knitting, and foreign languages are not quite her cup of tea either. Which is a lot more clumsy as a figurehead of the United Kingdom / a royal who hops from one diplomatic meeting to another. Look, you can just have your stylist order those sweaters for George. But having a nice chat with the president of so-and-so is something Kate will really have to do herself.

Before she went to college, Kate spent part of her gap year in Italy, which gave her the opportunity to learn some of the language. But during a working visit, the princess admitted that most of it has disappeared. “I have to practice my languages again, they are so bad. I have to make sure my children can do better than me.” The latter must be fine, because Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis appear to speak Spanish with their nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo. The eldest two are also already learning Spanish and/or French at their prestigious secondary school. Prince William also speaks fluent French and a fair amount of Welsh, Gaelic (spoken in Scotland) and Swahili. This is how the Waltzes complement each other!
