Will Princess Victoria (46) soon be Queen of Sweden? After it became known that Margrethe was abdicating, the Swedes wondered whether their monarch would also soon throw in the towel. In a statement to the Danish TV station TV2 it simply said: “The King has great respect and understanding for Queen Margrethe’s decision to hand over the throne to Crown Prince Frederik.” Carl is expected to remain King of Sweden for a while longer. He made this clear in his speech on his 50th anniversary to the throne last summer.
Margrethe also personally informed the Swedish royals of her decision to step down. Court information chief Margareta Thorgren confirmed this to Expressen. “The entire Swedish royal family has been informed that Queen Margrethe will abdicate,” she told the newspaper.
