Beautiful photos have been taken of Princess Beatrix over the years. But the most beautiful, the most natural were shot by Prince Claus. My favorite photo of Princess Beatrix is on Máxima’s desk.
It is a holiday snapshot of a relaxed Beatrix, dressed in a simple polo shirt and a colorful maxi skirt. Not only does the clothing contrast with the image we know, the pose and smile are also strikingly informal. I would not be surprised if this is the Beatrix that intimates think of when the princess is mentioned. Whatever the case: the photo is on display on Máxima’s desk at Noordeinde Palace, where she holds her walk-in consultation hours for staff every Monday and meets with her UN colleagues in New York.
