If anyone in Het Perfecte Plaatje cried often, it is Loes Haverkort. She probably shed the most tears this season. The actress quickly becomes emotional and once again it hits home in the semi-finals. Coincidentally, she encounters a young refugee from Ukraine, which she and the viewers are very moved by. Of course she likes to photograph the boy (and his father). And that produces beautiful pictures.

Semi-final of The Perfect Picture 2023
The semi-final has arrived in Het Perfecte Plaatje and the remaining candidates travel to Ireland. Quinty Misiedjan (27), Niek Roozen (26) and Loes Haverkort (42) are the three semi-finalists who still have a chance of a place in the final. One of them just drops out at the end of the episode, just before the finale. But who that is is certainly not immediately clear. After the first photo shoot they are almost equal: their figures are close to each other. However, Loes is at the bottom of the list, which means she feels a little more pressure to perform.
For the second photo shoot they take photos with a story. They receive support for this from jury member and documentary photographer Cynthia Boll. Each candidate is assigned a theme for the photo shoot. Quinty first chooses ‘love’, Niek chooses ‘hope’ and for Loes the theme remains ‘faith’. Although she is happy with it. “I looked at the cathedral and thought: Oh, that would be cool if we photographed there,” she says to the camera. “And then Quinty grabbed love and Niek hope. And I thought: yes, I have faith. Thank you!”

Loes also comes from a Catholic family, so she personally has something to do with the theme of ‘faith’. Although she was not raised Catholic herself. “But I do have a kind of reverence,” she says, after which the bells happen to ring. It seems like a sign from above: “Thank you! I respect you!” She indicates that she prefers to photograph a young child. In this way she hopes to create contrast: a young, hopeful person in an old building. Coincidentally, upon entering, she immediately sees a little boy at the altar. “I immediately thought: I have to have that little boy,” Loes responds. It also turns out to be the perfect protagonist for a photo. He has quite a special story. David, the little boy, fled Ukraine with his father. “We came here just after the start of the war,” says the father. He then says that they come to church as often as possible. “That helps,” Loes responds, to which the father agrees: “Yes, certainly.”

The little boy turns out to be a good model for Loes. He listens well and poses appropriately. Although Loes doesn’t really have to do much to get a good photo. “He looked at me and I really thought: wow. Something is happening there,” she responds to the camera. “There’s a look in his eyes that just went right through the lens.” She can tell from his look alone that he has experienced something. Loes has to restrain herself from crying. As soon as the father and his son are gone, tears fly from her eyes. “This was very special,” she says afterwards. “I have to stop for a moment.” When she plops down on the pew, she responds: “Shit.” Meanwhile, she wipes the tears from her eyes.
Not only Loes is impressed by her photo shoot, the jury also sees how beautiful the photo is. They also respond to the boy’s look. She is rewarded with a decent 8.5. This added to her previous score, a 7.8, makes her one of the finalists of Het Perfecte Plaatje 2023. In addition to Loes, Niek also advances to the final. Unfortunately, Quinty has to leave the TV program last.
