Sarah Ferguson is not yet cancer-free, but still feels ‘better than ever’

‘I am extremely grateful’

Sarah Ferguson has had quite a tumultuous period. Shortly after being declared cured of breast cancer, the Duchess was told that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer. And although there is no complete cure yet, fortunately the prospects are good!

Cancer diagnosis

After her breast cancer diagnosis in June last year, Sarah Ferguson suffered another blow at the beginning of this year. The Duchess was diagnosed with skin cancer. A mole she had removed turned out to be a malignant melanoma. Earlier this year, Sarah shared that she is in the best hands and that she has managed to stay positive thanks to the support of her family.

Better than ever

Fortunately, Sarah managed to maintain her positivity. In an interview with HELLO! Magazine, she talks candidly about the past year and how she experienced it.

Although according to doctors she cannot yet say that she is ‘cancer-free’, things are looking good for the future. “I still have to be checked regularly and am now applying a cream to remove the sun damage I have suffered. That means big blisters on my face, chest and hands for three weeks,” says Sarah. Of course it sounds intense, but for her this is already positive. “I no longer need immunotherapy, medications or chemotherapy, which I am extremely grateful for,” she explains.

Family

How has she managed to survive lately? “I have the most amazing family ever, I have an exceptional team behind me and I have the quality to turn any situation into something positive,” said the Duchess. She says she receives a lot of support from her family members, especially from her daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and their children.

Sarah’s diagnosis, of course, coincided with the cancer diagnoses of both her brother-in-law, King Charles, and her niece, Princess Kate. But that meant that they also found support in each other. “I think the key to life is that we all support each other.” And forgiveness is also important, according to Sarah. “I think forgiveness of yourself, and forgiveness of others, is a wonderful thing,” she added.
