Budget Day is being overhauled. At least that is what it says in documents obtained by the NOS.
It can hardly have escaped your attention: the atmosphere on Budget Day has changed. Where cheering and singing used to predominate, the driving tour is now increasingly becoming the stage for activists. The chaotic battle for a spot at the fences, just before the balcony scene begins, also requires action.
In order to give the day more of a folk festival character, NOS is now thinking hard about a new interpretation. The opening of palaces, for example, and a musical performance in the stables of Noordeinde. A meeting between monarch and people is also suggested. According to the NOS, we will not notice too much of the new plans next Budget Day; the introduction of Budget Day 2.0 is a multi-year plan.
