Roberto Cavalli died at home in Florence at the age of 83. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roberto had been ill for quite some time and would increasingly go to the hospital for checkups.

Roberto Cavalli’s death was confirmed on Friday via Roberto Cavalli’s official Instagram account. “A life lived with love” can be read. “It is with great sadness that we say our final goodbyes to our founder Roberto Cavalli today. From humble beginnings in Florence, Robert managed to make a name for himself worldwide and was loved and respected by everyone. Roberto was naturally talented and creative. He believed that everyone can discover and develop the artist within themselves.”

Animal print
Roberto Cavalli started his own fashion house in the 1960s. In the early 1970s he presented his very first collection in Paris, and in the 1990s he achieved new success through the extensive use of animal prints in his collection. Ten years ago he quit as creative director of Roberto Cavalli.
Fausto Puglisi, creative director of Roberto Cavalli since 2020, shares on Instagram that he will miss Roberto enormously. “Dear Roberto. You may no longer be physically with us, but I know I will always feel your spirit with me. It has been the greatest honor of my career to work under your legacy, and to create for a brand you founded with such vision and style. Rest in peace, you are loved and will be missed by many. Your name will live on as a beacon of inspiration for others and for me.”
The fashion house also shares one of Roberto Cavalli’s most famous quotes in the obituary. “I copy from an animal because I like to copy God. I think God is the most amazing designer ever.”

Roberto Cavalli has been extremely popular among many world-famous stars for years. For example, Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot regularly wore his creations and the subsequent generation was also often seen in his clothing. Taylor Swift, Madonna, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez are fans, among others.
Roberto had six children and tied the knot twice. Since 2014 he has been together with Sandra Nilsson, 45 years his junior. He had a son with the Swedish model last year: Giorgio.
