A princess and a shaman: it remains a special combination. Since they got together, there has been quite a commotion about Märtha Louise’s fiancé Durek Verrett. We list the scandals surrounding the shaman.
This coming weekend, the time has finally come: Norwegian Princess Märtha Louise, sister of Crown Prince Haakon, will tie the knot with her great love Durek Verrett. And that marriage has been a hot topic for a long time, because the self-proclaimed ‘shaman’ is associated with quite a few scandals.
Urban shaman
American entrepreneur, alternative therapist, ‘spiritual hacker’, urban shaman: Durek Verrett holds a number of unusual titles. But he will not receive the title of prince. Since he has been together with Märtha Louise, the Norwegian court has not always been enthusiastic about their relationship, and that is not so strange. Because although the shaman is a real guru to some, many see him mainly as a con man and conspiracy theorist. And, we have to admit, in our eyes it tends more towards the latter.
Own book
As a shaman, Durek Verrett holds some very bizarre views. He once wrote his own book, Spirit Hacking, but this book was discontinued because it contained some outrageous claims.
For example, in the book, Durek claims that people who have cancer bring it on themselves. In his ‘treatment’ he asks cancer patients: “Why do you want this disease?” According to the shaman, some people get upset by this question, but many children who ‘have given themselves cancer’ answer honestly: “Because I don’t want to be here anymore”. Uhm, pardon?!

He also writes that you should get rid of the ‘dirt’ of your sexual partners, and offers exercises to clean the inside of the vagina after a one night stand, because casual sex is said to attract underground evil spirits. No, it all sounds very logical…
Conspiracy theories
In addition to his views on medicine and the human body, Märtha Louise’s fiancé has a whole bunch of other crazy ideas. He’s a conspiracy theorist about humanoid “reptilians” saving the world, believes we’re being controlled by 5G radiation, and claims he can bend atoms and thus reverse age. Oh yeah, and if that wasn’t enough, he also supposedly casually predicted 9/11 and the coronavirus.

Prison sentence
‘The Princess and the Shaman’ already sounds special, but ‘The Princess and the Ex-Convict’ takes it a step further. Yet this title is at least as appropriate. Durek spent time behind bars after he organised a party in an abandoned house that subsequently burned down. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison for arson and trespassing, but was released early after a year. In addition, he has also been accused of domestic violence by various ex-partners, including his former fiancé Hank Greenberg.
Execution order against own mother
Durek and Märtha Louise are not only at odds with the Norwegian side of the family. They are also not getting along with Durek’s own mother-in-law, Veruschka Urquhart. She is said to have sold information about her son to the gossip magazine Se og Hør. This conflict escalated, and eventually Märtha and her shaman saw no other explanation than to issue her with a writ of execution.
Selling information about your son is of course not a classy move, but sending your own mother-in-law a writ of execution is pretty next-level.
Commercial profit
Although Märtha Louise always stands by her soon-to-be husband, the couple is well aware that all these scandals generate publicity. And they also know how to capitalize on it! In 2019, they went on their “The Princess and the Shaman” tour, with which they promoted their special love story and their spiritual perspective.
Furthermore, it was recently announced that they reached an agreement with glossy Hello! Magazine and Netflix. These two parties would have the exclusive rights to publish images of their upcoming wedding. In fact, Netflix is reportedly working on an extensive documentary about this special romance.
Wedding
Drama or not, on August 31st the ‘twin flames’ will finally tie the knot. It is not known who exactly is on the guest list, but we do know that several Norwegian royals will be present. Although they have already made it clear that they will not cooperate with the fire deals with Hello! Magazine and Netflix. Very sensible, of course.
