Welcome home! Princess Madeleine landed in Stockholm

However, my hubby was nowhere to be seen…

For a long time, the move to Sweden of Princess Madeleine and her family was a case of first seeing, then believing. But after a long delay, a difficult sale, and a number of years, the time has finally come: the princely family arrived in Stockholm yesterday, and they are here to stay!

Arrival

Yesterday afternoon the time had come: Princess Madeleine, Princesses Leonore and Adriennne and Prince Nicolas arrived at Stockholm airport. Together with their dog Oreo, they first flew from their home state of Florida to New York, and from there they took the long flight to Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The Svensk Damtidning spotted the family when they arrived at the airport – all dressed in nice, comfortable clothes. Well, don’t blame them after an eight-hour flight!

Major absentee

It is quite remarkable that my husband, the American financier Christopher O’Neill, was conspicuously absent. But there is a good reason for that, the court reportedly told the Swedish magazine Expressen. Margareta Thorgren, a spokesperson for the court, shared that the move will take place in phases.

The reason for this is simply that the move is such a large project. Well – moving with three young kids is no small feat, but add the distance from Florida to Stockholm and you understand that the couple prefers to take things slowly in steps. Chris will therefore rejoin his family shortly.

Delay

Last year there was confusion everywhere when, after much anticipation, the Kungahuset announced that Princess Madeleine would not be moving back to Sweden after all. After all, we all know what the saying goes: delay leads to adjustment, right?

At the time, the Swedish court announced that they would simply move a year later. “First see, then believe,” we wrote at the time. Later media reports about problems with the sale of the property in Florida also provided little optimism.

Fortunately, it now appears that the family indeed simply needed one extra year to complete the move. Hopefully this means that we will see Christopher, Madeleine, Leonore, Nicolas and Adrienne more often at royal events in the coming years!
