Máxima’s style and appearance are certainly not set in stone. In the coming days we will look through her photo album. With today: 2002.
With the royal wedding approaching, Maxima was very busy in January 2002. In between all the outings with family members and friends, she dances like crazy, gets to know a lot of people and finds her own way in terms of fashion. The Argentinian Graciela Naum, who has worked with her mother Maria for years, supplies a large part of the clothing, as does Edouard Vermeulen of Natan. The gray tailor in the photo below exudes the style of the latter fashion house, with a monochrome color scheme, a wide collar and (not in the photo) shoes with straps. The hairstyle, which is flat and classically styled for Máxima, also stands out.
On February 2, 2002, Máxima wears a wedding dress from Valentino. The design has a high waist, benitier neck and rich embroidery d’art at the skirt part
During the honeymoon, sporty clothing comes into the picture (left). What strikes me most in the photo below is the shape of the eyebrows. Compared to 2002, they are now narrower and more even.
For Queen’s Day, Máxima orders a suit from Natan à la Jackie Kennedy, with large buttons and a raised waist. The hat with a folded brim, a so-called relevé, would later become her trademark. The pashmina was already available in 2002, as were the shoes with straps and a 5 centimeter heel.
During Eloïse’s baptism, Máxima wears a calf-length coat with embroidered flowers from Valentino. I still hold out hope that this garment will make another appearance.
On Budget Day, Máxima shows her courage in a bright red dress with a deep décolleté. Just like the jacket, the dress is a design by Natan. The hair decoration comes from Philip Treacy.
Princess Martha Louise will marry Ari Behn on May 24. Máxima wears an orange dress from Valentino during the ceremony.
In the Antilles the princess wears a neat tailor from Natan. Hats with a straight base were still fashionable at that time. The shoes with straps are present again and the choice of jewelry is (still) modest.
A beige suit with leather jacket appeared several times in 2002. The label is easy to guess: Natan.
