We should have known this earlier.
A nice sweater is an absolute must-have for this season. The only disadvantage is that the cozy sweaters tend to pill the quickest. Fortunately, there are some useful tips to prevent this.
1. Washing machine
Do you think certain clothes will pill during washing? Then it is useful to carefully choose the program of your washing machine. The slower the movements and the shorter the washing cycle, the less your sweater will be damaged. For optimal protection, hand washing is the best option.
2. Turn over
Turn the garment inside out before washing. This prevents excessive wear of the fabric from other clothing, zippers and buttons.
3. Sort
Sort clothes properly before washing. Washing delicate items in the same load as your jeans will cause more wear and damage to the fabric.
4. Full machine
Make sure the washing machine is not overfull. Putting too much in won’t leave room for the clothes to move easily. Due to the small amount of space, the substances rub against each other, which can lead to pills.
5. Detergent
Do not use detergents and harmful bleaches that can weaken the fibers. Choose a detergent and fabric softener that affect the fabric as little as possible.
6. Dryer
Avoid the dryer. Friction with other substances damages the fibers (or worse: it shrinks). Hang your sweaters on the clothesline. It may not be as soft as in the dryer, but you will keep your sweater beautiful for much longer.
This is how you remove pills on your sweater
One of the most effective ways to remove pills is to use a wool comb or a battery-operated fuzz remover that gently shaves the surface of the fabric. This can also be done by hand using a razor blade. Be careful!
