Met Gala
The annual Met Gala is the ultimate moment for the fashion world. You’d almost forget it amid all the glitz and glamour, but traditionally, this charity event raises money for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The opening of a new exhibition at the Costume Institute will also be highlighted in this way. And those exhibitions are the origin of those oh-so-important themes on the red carpet every year.
Sleeping Beauties
This year the Metropolitan Museum’s exhibition bears the fairytale name Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. Historical works of art from fashion history are once again put in the spotlight, including some pieces that have been described as ‘too fragile to ever be worn again’. Connoisseurs immediately saw this as a subtle sneer at Kim Kardashian, who incurred the wrath of fashion historians by wearing a dress by the late Marilyn Monroe for the 2022 Met Gala.
The dress code ‘The Garden of Time’ applies on the red carpet – loosely translated as the Garden of Time. With such a dreamy theme, we naturally expect plenty of fairytale appearances at the gala!
Guest list
Of course, the big question every year is who exactly will be present. But that’s top secret! Of course, we know who the hosts will be serving this year. We have high expectations for Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth.
By the way, you really can’t just enter the grand gala. For example, Anna Wintour personally decides who is invited. But an invitation alone is not enough. The most exclusive fashion party of the year can cost a pretty penny. A seat at the table was estimated to cost around $50,000 last year, writes Marie Claire. Oh well, it’s for a good cause.
Red carpet…and then?
While we thoroughly enjoy the splendor on the red carpet at the gala, it is a mystery what else happens during the event. And that is on purpose: guests must adhere to a strict no-phone policy, and sharing snapshots of the event on social media is completely out of the question.
We do know that there is always a major performance by a popular artist, and that guests will have the opportunity to admire the Metropolitan’s brand new exhibition before dining together.
