Bought a Christmas tree, but it would be a shame to throw it away already? Give your tree a second life by replanting it in the garden.

It may not sound that difficult: the roots are at the bottom of the tree and you have a free spot in the garden. However, you will have to pay attention to a few points if you want to replant your tree, so that you can enjoy it for much longer.
When you buy it
Maybe a little too late for now, but keep these tips in mind when you bring a tree into your home next year:
- If you buy a Christmas tree with a root ball, make sure that the root ball is as large as possible. A tree with a large root ball ensures that the chance of survival is much greater. A pot-grown tree is even better for replanting.
- Make sure the tree itself is not too big. Smaller trees regrow much more easily than large trees.
- Trees with a few roots in a plastic bag will not regrow
When it’s in the house
- The Christmas tree comes from outside and does not like it if it is immediately placed in the warmth of the house. So let it acclimatize first. Make sure it is out of the wind, but still in a cool place: a shed, garage or utility room is ideal for this.
- Continue to take good care of the tree once it has found its place in the house. Give it plenty of water: both with the watering can on the root ball and with the plant sprayer on the needles. A good and healthy Christmas tree can evaporate up to a liter of water per day!
- Do not leave the tree next to a heat source, such as a stove. The tree can dry out quickly, which means you will enjoy it less.
- Do not leave the tree indoors for too long. Even then it is in the heat. The longer it sits in the heat, the more difficult it becomes to get it used to outside temperatures again.
When he goes into the garden
- As mentioned earlier, the tree will first have to get used to the outside temperatures. A good transition is therefore to place it in the shed, garage or utility room again for a day or two.
- Make sure that you only plant the tree when the worst period of frost has passed. After all, you don’t want it to freeze to death.
- The Christmas tree grows best in a large hole in the ground, filled with garden soil without fertilizer.
- Even when it is finally in the garden, it will require a lot of care. Also give the tree plenty of water outdoors, both after planting and in the summer. The tree also uses a lot of water in the garden.
