3x waste residues that also serve as plant food

No more dead plants, who wouldn’t want that? These waste remains can serve as plant food, and this is how you do it.

Waste scraps and plant food

Plants that are grown outside in the open ground have plenty of room to extract and absorb nutrients from the soil, but this is slightly different with houseplants in a pot. Your houseplants really need more nutrition, but this nutrition is often very pricey in the store. You can quickly and easily make good plant food with waste scraps, which works at least as well as the food from the store. And it’s better for the earth!

1. Banana peels

We always throw away banana peels as quickly as possible, but did you know that these peels contain many nutrients that are good for plants? It contains a lot of magnesium, calcium, potassium and phosphorus, which plants can use very well. The substances ensure higher resistance of the plant, less rot and stronger roots. How to use banana peels as plant food? You first cut the peels into pieces and then dig them into the soil around the base of your plants. Or you can leave the peels in a layer of water for two weeks, dilute the banana water with four cups of clean water and pour this over the plants.

2. Coffee grounds

Plants, like many people, are also very happy with coffee. It contains nitrogen, magnesium, potassium and other minerals that ensure that the plant can grow better. Since it contains caffeine, it also promotes plant growth. Therefore, make sure that you do not use this medicine too often, and preferably only once a month. If you want to use the waste as coffee grounds, do it like this: let the coffee grounds dry thoroughly and sprinkle it over the top layer of the base. Mix this well, and use no more than a tablespoon of coffee grounds.

3. Eggshells

Eggshells contain a lot of calcium, which is good for the cell walls of the plants. The plants are also less likely to become ill if the soil contains a lot of calcium. It also contains a lot of potassium and magnesium, which allows the plant to grow stronger. If you want to use eggshells as plant food, it is best to do this as follows: first rinse the eggshells well and let them dry thoroughly. Then you grind them and sprinkle the crushed peels over the plant soil. Preferably use organic eggshells.
