According to the police, the chase was indeed dangerous.
In May last year, Harry and Meghan said they were involved in a ‘near-fatal chase’. That statement was subsequently questioned by many people and even called a publicity stunt, but now the ex-royals are receiving support from the New York police. According to the intelligence service, the way the couple were chased by paparazzi was indeed dangerous.
Catastrophic pursuit
On May 17, Harry and Meghan once again found their way to the media. The couple reported that they and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, were victims of an hours-long chase by paparazzi after an awards show in New York, which almost ended badly. “Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Mrs Ragland were involved in a near-catastrophic car chase by a series of extremely aggressive paparazzi,” their spokesperson’s statement read.
PR stunt
Harry and Meg’s statement was then taken with a grain of salt, to say the least. There was a lot of speculation going around, and there were even claims that it was a publicity stunt. These claims went down the wrong way with the ex-royals. Their own publicist Ashley Hansen also did not appreciate the speculation: “With all due respect, given the Duke’s family history, you wouldn’t believe this was some kind of PR stunt,” Hansen told Page Six referring to Princess’ fatal accident Diana. “To be honest, I think that’s horrible.”
