This is how you appear confident during a job interview

Phew, job interviews are really exciting. Of course you really want that one job and that can cause nerves to rise considerably. But how do you ensure that you enter the conversation confidently? These are our five best tips.

Wear an outfit that you feel good in

Choosing your outfit is an important step in preparing for your job interview. We recommend that you choose an outfit that you feel good in. By this we mean an outfit that makes you feel powerful. You look at yourself in the mirror and are impressed! That’s what you should feel. Don’t go too over the top with your outfit, get a sense of what kind of outfits the company wears there. For example, is it very formal or more business casual? Besides the fact that the outfit must look nice, the outfit must also fit comfortably. It’s a huge confidence killer if you’re constantly concerned about the fact that your pants are pinching or your skirt is riding up. So always wear something that fits well and is comfortable.

Be well prepared

Your preparation is half the battle for an application. Before the interview, you have of course submitted your CV and probably also written a motivation letter. Prepare for questions that may be asked about this. Also be prepared for questions about your expectations for the job. Also think of answers to the frequently asked questions, for example what your weaknesses are. They’ve probably heard that you’re a perfectionist a hundred times, so be original.

Make eye contact

Avoiding eye contact is a clear signal that you are nervous in many situations. If you want to appear confident, it is therefore good to regularly make eye contact with the person you are interviewing. Don’t be too exaggerated with this, this can also come across as too eager. Just pretend you’re having a normal conversation with someone and make eye contact as you would in that situation. This will probably feel a lot less awkward for the interviewer.

Try to make a connection with the employer

A goal that many people have for a job application is to impress your potential employer. This is of course not wrong, you want to leave a positive impression. But we recommend doing this by making a connection with the employer. It is important to be liked in a job application, after all you have to fit in with the team. If you can put the interviewer at ease, they will have a pleasant feeling about the conversation. And that is exactly what we want to achieve!

Imagine yourself getting the job

Manifesting is more powerful than you think! Before the job interview, think about what your life would be like if you got that job. This way you motivate yourself for the conversation and give yourself that confidence boost that can give you that extra advantage. If you truly believe you can get this job, you will be much more confident in the interview.
