Joost Klein hit out at the Eurovision Song Contest during his first performance abroad. In Vancouver, Canada, he shouted “fuck Eurovision” from the stage and that is of course now reflected on social media.
First be silent, now speak
Joost Klein was disqualified from the Eurovision Song Contest a few weeks ago and this is the first time he has openly said something about it. Last week in Enschede he wisely kept his mouth shut about it. At the time, he only said, “I know everyone is waiting for me to say something, but I just say love.” He also posted on Instagram: “Love always wins”. Hmm, guess not!

Europapa hits different in Canada
Some nice news: even in Canada they are going wild with Joost’s mega hit Europapa. In other videos you can see the audience singing along to the song. Not surprising, because his track is high in the Spotify charts worldwide.
Eurovision disqualification
Just a little recap for those who missed it: Joost Klein is the first artist ever to be disqualified from the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. How could this happen? Well, apparently he threatened a camerawoman after his performance in the second semi-final. At least, this is what the woman claimed, who subsequently filed a report. According to his lawyer, Klein had only pushed her camera away and there was no threat. AVROTROS, who was with him in Malmö, found the disqualification ‘disproportionate’. Drama everywhere!
Lawsuit against Joost Klein
And as if that wasn’t enough, Joost also has to appear in court in June. Yet his Swedish lawyer remains optimistic about the outcome of the police investigation. “I’m sure if the police do a proper investigation, he won’t be prosecuted.”
S10 also finds the Eurovision Song Contest atmosphere unpleasant
Joost is not the only artist with an unpleasant experience during the Eurovision Song Contest. Singer S10, who represented the Netherlands with De Diepte in 2022, also had a tough time behind the scenes. In a video from RTL Boulevard, S10 says that the atmosphere behind the scenes was “really very intense” and that her personal boundaries were often not respected. Stien de Hollander, as S10 is really called, emphasizes that she did not find it all negative, but that things did happen that she experienced as unpleasant. “The Eurovision Song Contest is really very intense. People constantly want something from you. Everyone pulls on you. That really took its toll on me. Yes, that was intense for me.”
