The queen is back to work!
While most people start their working week by standing in a traffic jam or hopping on their bike on Monday morning, things are of course different for our queen. Queen Máxima flew to Colombia yesterday in her role as special advocate of the United Nations.
Advocate
Some royals naturally take on all kinds of charity projects and show themselves involved in the world through patronages and honorary roles. Máxima has been active at the United Nations for many years, where she is committed to combating poverty.
She does this in her role as UNSGSA, or in full: United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development. Quite a mouthful, which is not much more concise in Dutch (special advocate of the Secretary General of the United Nations for inclusive financing for development, just so you know), but okay. The most important thing is that HM is committed to the right cause, nun?
Colombia
Yesterday, Máxima landed in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, where she was welcomed by Ricardo Bonilla González, the country’s Minister of Finance.

Maxima in Medellín
The Queen then moved on to Medellín, where she sat down with all kinds of prominent figures last night to discuss the financial health of the population.

Snapshots of the day show Her Majesty dressed in business black for the occasion. The always well-informed Josine Droogendijk of Fashion Queen Máxima also reports that the queen’s bag is a so-called Wayuu bag. The Wayuu people, according to a quick Google search, live in the northern tip of Colombia, around the border area with neighboring Venezuela. Nice and on brand, this bag!
Busy schedule
Today there are also three trips to different financial companies on the agenda. For example, our Queen visits a company that focuses on retirees who want to set up their own business, a cooperative that helps residents with a low income to improve their situation, and a company that invests in sustainable agriculture. A nice busy and diverse program for Máx!
