Lots of music fun for the Oranjes!
Last night the King’s Day concert was on the program in Emmen. With a few days to go until the big holiday itself, a festive music spectacle was offered yesterday by the royal couple to everyone involved in the big Orange festival next weekend.
King’s Day concert
The King’s Day concert has been a permanent part of the King’s Day festivities for almost forty years. Not on the big day itself, but well before it is time for a musical spectacle. For years the concert took place at Noordeinde Palace, but since 2014 it has taken place in the municipality that organizes King’s Day that year.
That is why King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima went to the Atlas Theater in Emmen yesterday, where they enjoyed a thunderous concert together with Princess Beatrix, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien.
Radiant royals
Upon arrival, the royal party was given a festive welcome, and it turned out that they were all dressed in their most radiant outfits.

For the occasion, Máx once again dressed in the light blue Natan skirt that she also wore last year at the Christmas music gala. We are secretly more fans of the fairytale combination with the light blue top from the end of last year than this bright yellow copy, but whatever. Either way, Máx looks radiant!
Princess Beatrix wore a dark outfit with a colorful accent. And do we detect a hint of Orange in the princess? Nicely on theme!
In addition, we cannot ignore Princess Laurentien’s wonderful statement look. The classic white and gold combination is already a winner in our opinion, and we also really appreciate the dramatic silhouette of the sleeves. And let’s face it: doesn’t this snapshot look straight out of a movie?
Musical entertainment
The evening was of course all about Emmen. The theme was ‘Voices from limitless Emmen’ and a wide variety of musical talents were presented. For example, the RVD shared: “A program has been put together with contributions from, among others, the Calefax reed quintet, harpist Remy van Kesteren, singer Rosa da Silva and the Animato Quartet. They perform works by Pietro Antonio Locatelli, George Gershwin, Leo Smit, Kinan Azmeh and Daniël Lohues, born in Emmen. Ensemble BOI AKIH plays a composition by guitarist Niels Brouwer with a text by singer Monica Akihary.”
In short: enough fun for a whole evening full of musical entertainment! Afterwards there was of course time for a group photo…
…And there was a chat with the artists present.
It seems that Máx even personally steals the bassoon from one of the members of Calefax. Who knows: could the queen also have other musical ambitions in addition to her guitar playing?
In any case, the images look like it was a very pleasant evening. That leaves you wanting more, right? On to King’s Day!
