The 6 funniest royal moments of 2023

From Willem-Alexander’s photobomb to Kate’s slap on William’s buttocks.

At Glamial we naturally follow the royals closely. Over the past year we have been able to observe their Highnesses in all kinds of circumstances: from intensely sad situations to wonderful moments of happiness and everything in between. To end 2023 well, we list the five royal moments that made us laugh the most.

1. Prince Louis’ facial expressions

If we can call one royal the funniest of 2023, that title really goes to Prince Louis. The youngest Wales has stolen our hearts with his public performances this year. All those times he stole the show without being asked with his crazy facial expressions: we can’t get enough of them. That’s why here’s a small compilation of our favorite little prince:

2. Prince William’s giggle

Prince Louis doesn’t seem to get his humor from a stranger. Recently, none other than the Prince of Wales was spotted crying with laughter at a show by comedian Tom Allen. During the performance, William clearly couldn’t keep a straight face, and the cameras spotted him wiping tears from his eyes. As a comedian you can’t get a bigger compliment, nun?

3. The joint blunder of Queen Margrethe and Princess Mary

Another funny royal moment took place in October. On a prestigious occasion, Margrethe and Mary want to kiss each other, but the large colossus on Mary’s head throws a spanner in the works. In the end it becomes nothing more than a kiss on the hand and a tap on Mary’s cheek. Fortunately, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law can also have a good laugh about it themselves.

4. King Willem-Alexander’s photobomb

In August this year, Max Verstappen received a senior visitor at the Zandvoort Grand Prix: the Dutch team were well represented at the race. Wim-Lex was also there, and he unknowingly made for a hilarious photo. The snapshot was shared on Instagram by driver and commentator Karun Chandhok. He thought he was taking a casual photo with actor Steve Carell, but it turned out that the Dutch king (a bit dazed) also made an appearance in the photo. “A sentence I never thought I would say…I went to take a photo with Steve Carell, and was photobombed by the King of the Netherlands!”, the former Formula 1 driver wrote with the photo. Ha!

5. The fall of King Harald

The fact that we can laugh about this moment is of course because it turned out completely well. In June, King Harald visited royal colleague Margrethe. However, when he wanted to greet the queen, he landed on the ground with a thud. It is a bit of a shock, but fortunately the king quickly gets up and manages to greet Margrethe during the second attempt. The two royal contemporaries had a good laugh about it together.

6. Kate’s slap on William’s bottom

In February this year, Kate showed her naughty side. During the BAFTAs, Princess William gave William a playful slap on his royal behind. This rare moment for the princely couple was likely the result of several attempts by Kate to take William’s hand. When the prince was clearly not up for that, Kate gave him a well-deserved taste of his own medicine. It obviously caused quite a bit of hilarity online. One of our favorite royal moments this year!
