A heavy blow! Rafael Nadal (37) only recently returned to the court after a break of almost a year. The tennis professional wanted to celebrate his big comeback at this year’s Australian Open. From January 7th, the Spaniard wanted to compete with other athletes on the tennis court. But the father of the family now has to accept a major setback: the athlete was injured during his last match in Brisbane. Rafael therefore cancels participation!
The 36-year-old shared the sad news with his community via Instagram. After the last game he had problems with a muscle and had the injury examined immediately. Fortunately, the old hip injury was not affected. However, he now has a micro-tear in a muscle. In his post he writes: “At the moment I’m not ready to give maximum performance in five-set matches. I’m flying back to Spain to see my doctor, get treatment and rest.”
The professional athlete hasn’t completely given up yet: “I’ve worked very hard all year for this comeback, and as I’ve always said, my goal is to be at my best level in three months,” emphasizes Rafael in conclusion.
