Candle shortage? This way you can reuse the leftover wax from your old candle

Has your candle burned out completely and is it impossible for you to light the wick? Then the leftover wax often ends up in the trash. Especially if you burn a lot of candles, this is a shame and not necessary. You can use this leftover wax to create a new candle.

Reuse leftover candle wax

Is your trash bin also full every week with a mountain of tea lights or other candle remnants? Then don’t throw it away. Save them and use them to make new candles. Good for the environment and for your wallet.

This is what you need:

  • Leftover candle wax
  • Fuses
  • A pan
  • Water
  • 2 pliers
  • Adhesive tape
  • Tweezers
  • Scissors
  • Skewers
  • Needle nose pliers

Step 1: boil water

First, bring a pan of water to the boil. In the meantime, keep one empty jar on hand. Once it boils, reduce the heat so that it simmers slightly. Take a jar with the leftover candle wax and put it in the water. Make sure that the water rises above the edge of the candle wax, but that the jar remains floating. When the candle wax is soft, remove it with tweezers.

Step 2: the candle jar

Now put your collected candle wax residues into the empty candle jar. After this you also put in a fuse. It is important that these are a little higher than the candle wax. Now use the adhesive tape to stick three skewers together in a triangle. By placing this on the pot you can put the wicks in the right place.

Step 3: melt candle wax

Now also melt your remaining candle wax remnants in a pan with (almost) boiling water. Once the candle wax has melted, remove the wick and remove the jar from the pan. Now pour the melted candle wax into the candle jar that you prepared in step 2. Keep repeating this until your jar is filled again and you have a brand new candle.
