Simple procedure: This is how Crown Prince Frederik's coronation works

This won’t be a big event! At the turn of the year, the Danish royal family made a surprising announcement: Queen Margrethe (83) will abdicate in mid-January. Since then it has been clear: Denmark will soon have a new monarch – Crown Prince Frederik (55). In a few days the time has come and the change of throne will take place. But there won’t be a pompous celebration like the one in Great Britain in 2023: Frederik is taking on his new position so unspectacularly.

As reported by ARD, among others, the Danish Prime Minister announced the specific schedule for Frederik’s coronation. But it won’t be spectacular. The heir to the throne will leave Amalienborg Palace by car with his wife Mary (51) and son Christian (18) on January 14th at 1:35 p.m. His mother follows him in a carriage. The first stop is Christiansborg Palace, where the Queen signs her abdication declaration at a State Council meeting. She is no longer queen – the office goes to Frederik. But this will only become official in the next step: at 3 p.m. there will be a proclamation on the balcony of the castle and the Prime Minister will announce the change of throne. This is followed by a salute of honor and the royal flags are symbolically handed over at 5 p.m.

Frederik will give a speech as part of the proclamation. But public speeches should not be one of his strengths. His wife Mary seems to be able to help and is practicing diligently with him. “I now know that I have to concentrate differently. The training I have certainly wasn’t in vain,” the 55-year-old is said to have already emphasized, according to Bild.
