Rusk with aniseed for half-Dutch princess Sophie of Bavaria!

A new generation for the age-old aristos!

The rusks with mice have been in great demand lately! After the Luxembourg sprout in May this year and the first child of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa of Jordan, it is now a party for the House of Wittelsbach. Prince Ludwig and his half-Dutch wife, Princess Sophie, have become parents of their first little one.

Wedding

A quick flashback. In 2023, the couple said yes to each other. And no, you don’t have to expect it to be kept intimate and small, no, it became a whole spectacle with royals from all over Europe present. And although you as a bride have probably already experienced the necessary stress, with Princess Sophie it went even a step further.

When the moment finally arrived, and the bride and groom were able to read their vows to each other in a romantic way, it became a bit too much for the princess and she fainted. Luckily, Ludwig was there to catch his princess. “After a drink, she was fine again and the ceremony continued,” according to the German newspaper Bild. In any case, the snapshots were no less beautiful!

Baby

Back to the present. Sophie and Ludwig have been enjoying their married life for almost a year now, they felt it was time for a new step. The two welcomed their first child, a boy named Prince Rupprecht Theodor Maria. Sophia gave birth in Munich on August 6, according to a statement on Instagram. “Mother and child are in excellent health, the young family is now enjoying their first days together,” the caption read.

Rupprecht is a name you don’t hear very often, but it is a name that already appears in the family. Rupprecht was also the name of the last crown prince of Bavaria. In addition, it would mean ‘bright fame’.

History

The House of Wittelsbach, to which the Bavarian prince and his bride belong, has a very rich history. For example, the legendary Empress Sisi was a Wittelsbach by birth, and Prince Ludwig is the great-great-grandson of the last king of Bavaria.

If history had gone differently, Ludwig would have been the future king of Bavaria. Now that Rupprecht has been born, it means that the young prince is the direct successor of his father in the succession. Only the male descendants of the House of Wittelsbach can claim this. However, the youngest Wittelsbach scion should not expect too much. Ludwig is namely only and only a ‘pretender’ to the vanished throne.
