Frederik and Mary conclude their summer trip in Assens and Vejle. From special encounters and festive receptions to cultural outings: it was all festive. We will tell you all about it!
On the last two days of their annual summer cruise, the Danish King Frederik and Queen Mary visited the town of Assens and the municipality of Vejle. And although the weather was not always good, the royal couple delighted us with a number of radiant snapshots.
Annual Summer Tour
It is a tradition for the Danish royals to make a boat trip along various Danish places every year in the summer. This tradition started with King Christian, and was later continued by King Frederik IX and also his successor Queen Margrethe. Well, and then the current King Frederik and his wife Mary can’t stay behind, of course. Earlier this week they already visited Bornholm and Ærø, and on day 3 and 4 two new destinations were nearby: Assens and Vejle.

Day 3 of the summer trip started off as usual very pleasantly. The royal couple arrived in Assens, and visited a school where they were warmly welcomed by a lot of flag-waving kids. Frederik also visited a football team for children with special needs, and the king and queen planted a tree together.

During the visit to Assens, Mary wore one of our favorite looks of the entire summer trip. She opted for a dreamy strapless dress by Zimmermann in a floral pattern, and combined it with a beige Ralph Lauren blazer and decorated belt that perfectly accentuated her waist. Gorgeous!
A fixed point on the summer tour is a closing reception on the royal ship. This was also held in Assens, and guests could enjoy all kinds of exquisite snacks on board.

Fortunately, Frederik and Mary do not have to stand in the kitchen themselves for the reception, but they have an extensive crew on board that takes care of these kinds of things for them. The Dannebrog has a total crew of more than 50 men, consisting of nine officers, seven sergeants, two corporals and 38 conscripts. So the security on board is fine!
On to Vejle
After a successful day in Assens, the Dannebrog set course for the last stop of the tour: Vejle. Unfortunately, the weather here was not so good, but fortunately the royal couple had remembered to bring a blanket. In Vejle, Their Majesties visited a special center, which functions as both a daycare center and a nursing home. In the common areas, the children and the elderly meet each other during activities.
Later, an architectural excursion was planned, as the couple visited the iconic Fjordenhus building, designed by a famous Danish-Icelandic artist.

Funny detail: the photos show that Mary exchanged her Gianvito Rossi pumps for flats from Prada at one point. But who can blame her! At the end of such an intensive trip, we can understand that your feet are going to hurt a little. Furthermore, the queen is wearing a blouse from Proenza Schouler, a jacket from Prada and a voluminous skirt from Baum und Pferdgarten.
Closing words
Based on all the fun snapshots, we can conclude that Frederik and Mary had a great time on their summer trip. And they let that be known themselves on their Instagram: “Thank you to Bornholm and Ærø, Assens and Vejle for making our first summer tour an unforgettable experience,” the royal couple writes. “Everywhere we were welcomed in the most festive way: along the roads, from windows and balconies, at the harbors, on squares and in town halls. Thank you very much for that.”
They continue: “Our country has so much to offer, and we have enjoyed the culture and nature, the communities and craftsmanship that we have personally experienced. Thanks to everyone who spontaneously or planned shared their personal stories, experiences and talents with us, and to all who prepared, organized and participated in the past four days. We are deeply touched and full of beautiful memories.” Ahw!
