The two reportedly find reassurance and comfort in each other.
Even before Princess Kate’s dramatic announcement regarding her cancer diagnosis, she had lunch with her father-in-law King Charles – who has also been diagnosed with cancer. The two recently shared that they “share a common illness experience,” a royal source revealed.
Cancer diagnosis
Last Friday, Princess Kate shared the terrible news that cancer was found during her visit to the hospital for abdominal surgery.
The princess announced the news in a video message. She said that the news came as a “huge shock” to her and her family, and that she and William “have done everything they can to process this privately.” She said they took the time to tell their children George, Charlotte and Louis. “As I told them, I am doing well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and soul. Having William by my side is also a great source of comfort and reassurance. As does the love, support and kindness shown by so many of you. It means so much to both of us.”
Lunch
Shortly before the announcement, Kate and her father-in-law, King Charles, had lunch together. Both had already started treatment for their illness at that time. Author Sally Bedell Smith said that the two have ‘something in common’ because of the disease. “It can only bring them closer together. It is a source of reassurance and comfort for them both.”
She also said: “Charles has always had a good relationship with her. She is interested in artistic things and she appreciates art and culture, so she has a shared affinity with the king in that regard.”
Summer agenda for King Charles
Charles is now doing ‘well’ considering the circumstances, a royal source told People. This source also said that they are currently preparing an agenda for the summer period, but that this is ‘without obligations’, and that everything ‘depends on the advice of the doctors at that time’.
