It started as a fairytale: model became actress. And not just any actress, but a very successful one, with a role as a Bond girl, an Oscar on the mantle and great co-stars such as Michael Keaton, Brad Pitt, Robert Redford, Russel Crowe and Kevin Spacey. In 1993, Kim married Alec Baldwin, with whom she had a daughter, Ireland. For nine years, Basinger & Baldwin were Hollywood’s power couple.
Fallen
After her divorce, things went downhill for Kim (now 69). She suffered from a panic disorder, spent too much money (for example, she bought the town of Braselton in Georgia for 20 million) and chose the wrong roles. She made no fewer than 26 films in a row that were rated unsatisfactory by the press and public, with the horror film Bless the Child being the low point. (Read in a review: ‘In an attempt to run up the scare count, Basinger suffers a concussion, which gives her completely useless visions of strange computer animals fluttering around. It just makes this ridiculous mix of End of Days and Rosemary’s Baby even more ridiculous on.”>
Kim was declared bankrupt and had to sell many of her possessions – the town of Braselton yielded a paltry one million. In 2023, La Basinger lives a modest but happy life in Hollywood. She works as a voice actor and voice-over. According to her, it’s a nice job, because she doesn’t have to be in the spotlight. She shares her life with Mitch Stone, a hairdresser ten years her junior.
